Thanks for the info on what you used - I'll have to try something like that next time I'm around egrets, or birds in general. I keep forgetting about increasing ISO and end up with either too small a dof or too slow a shutter speed. These photos are just awesome!

For these white birds I also set exposure compensation to -1.3, for very dark birds I set positive exposure compensation.
