All of my original photos have exif info on them, my guess is that when I re size them it somehow gets taken off. I use VSO image re sizer and nowhere in the program do I see anything about keeping the exif data on. Could you point me to a program that has the feature to do so.

oh boy. i'm maybe the last person to ask since everything i use is free, but i'll tell you. i use irfanview batch conversion to resize at a reduced jpeg quality (80%) and increase sharpness, contrast and saturation. Then i check the resultant filesize. Usually it's ok (less than 250KB) but if it's not I'll redo the troublesome pics with a lower jpeg quality. exif stays as original (it's an option in Irfanview).

However, VSOresizer probably does it too. No need to change:
