Default Kauai's Waterfalls

One of the true beauties of Hawaii is its abundant waterfalls. However, many of them pose a challenge to an old, fat guy. You have to hike overland to get to them. On the island of Kauai, though, there are several beautiful falls, and all you have to do is pull your car off the side of the road.

In ancient Hawaiian times, young men would demonstrate their manhood by leaping from the tops of Wailua falls, with results that were, predictably, too often fatal. Today, few leap from the falls, but there are always fools.....er, "intrepid adventurers".....who will hike through the jungle down to get a closer look

All shots taken with the K-7. Lenses used were the Tamron 28-75mm Di LD f/2.8, Pentax 10-17mm FE (at 17mm), and Tamron 70-300mm Di LD.

A few miles away is the beautiful Opaekaa Falls. The observer can't easily get as close, but the falls are gorgeous. (I couldn't help but find myself wanting the house that overlooks the falls from the top.)

This weekend was our first time to visit another of the islands besides Oahu, and Kauai was, to say the least, spectacular.

Paul, Beautiful falls perfectly captured!

Although I have flown over Hawaii twice I have yet to go there(shame on me). You are whetting my appetite with these pictures.

Awesome shots! We haven't managed to get to Hawaii (yet) but I'd love to one of these days. How much time did you spend on Kauai?

Great series - really shows the power of the falls, and the rich green land. #1 is my favorite for mood & composition.
