Default My son in the Finnish Army

Took a picture of my son, who just started started serving in the Finnish army. The ISO was 800, forgot why... but hope there is not to much noise... I was taking this picture in a hurry. By the way, the zipper in the front... it is open since that is where they put their hat... Interesting how indoors, they "bow" to certain officers, and when approaching the main desk. Holy cats.

Great portrait! You must be very proud (of him especially, as well as of your fine photo).

Ah I can see those famous snow fatigues in the background ! Does your son get to do all the cool stuff we often see from Nordic countries ? Cross-country skiing & shooting etc. ? Nice shots Ned.

Yeah, he has snow fatigues and all. My son belongs to a specialist regiment, they lay mines, and protect AGAINST chemical warfare.

You might wonder about "laying mines". Finland is the only country in the European Union, or at least one of the few if not ONLY country, that believes it has the right to lay mines. As you know from History, Finland fought a terrible battle and 10% of its land (which my inlaws came from) was taken away. Mines are weapon of choice for dealing with enemies that are bent on invading your country and taking it away from you.

Yes, they do cross coutry skiing... they go out into the woods, hide under snow or in the forest. Very well-trained army. Thanks. Ned

Hello Mole, Jehan, Paul and Lou! Many thanks for your kind words. Yes, I am very proud of Adam. My wife is Finnish and we moved here from Plymouth, England. Adam has learned Finnish, enough so that he could join the Army. I received a phone call last night how he has been shooting his gun, going out into the woods (which are just beautiful where he is).

Many kind thanks, all!

Ned

I hear ya, mate. Too right, you are! Especially when the Finnish soldiers build a sauna in a tent... or are out doing their thing in the snow. Thanks!
