Default NYS Festival of Balloons

Ever since we missed this one last year was hoping to get to it this year and we tried this weekend. However, the weather did it's best to ruin it a little for us. The NYS Festival of Balloons is held every year in Dansville NY which is about 2 hours drive for us. Being hot air balloons the weather plays a very important part in determining whether they fly or not. The last 2 days it's been rainy and windy, today was just partly cloudy but still too windy, but we took a chance and drove out hoping they would still launch. Unfortunately they didn't, but they did oblige the waiting crowds and inflated a bunch of the balloons anyway which was still cool to see. Enjoy!

This was a Mr Potato Head balloon converted to a Mr Beaver.

The Purple People Eater

Pokey the Turtle

My wife really liked this one.

And my feeble attempt to capture the flame blowing up into one of the balloons

Ballon festivals make such fantastic photo ops - such a pity that they didn't actually launch for you. Great ingenuity too !

I assume it's the new York State balloon festival. Very nicely photographed, by the way.

Great pictures Mike. Balloons are colorful and fun to photograph. These had nice shapes and graphics and you nailed the shots!

It's all good. When I used to be on the phones doing tech support you'd be surprised how many times I would tell folks I was in Buffalo NY and they actually thought it was just a stones throw from NYC. It's sad how ignorant of geography people can be, Buffalo is about 440 miles from NYC by the thruway, complete opposite end of the state from NYC. And here I thought all my little photo stories I posted would make people see there is more to New York State than New York City. Just kidding.

I appreciate all the kind words, I don't think the balloon shots were my best by any means and I really wish the weather had cooperated so that I could see the launch, but that's just the way it is. Just turned into another driving adventure for the summer like all the others we did. Today is the first day of school for my oldest so the adventures will be slowing down until next summer.

Mike - Great assortment of finely-photographed balloons! We have a (much smaller) event like that here, but mostly just the traditional shapes and patterns. You did a great job capturing the diversity & color!

PS - hope that 1st school day went really well!

It might not have worked out quite the way you expected, but balloons are always great fun. You can't go wrong with them.
