Default Some Wings

It's a bit too early for autumnal migration season here in East Tennessee, but there sure are lots of winged friends out & active in the parks!
Of course our resident Black Vultures are still enjoying soaking up the (more limited) sunshine... (those white spots are gnats around the vulture's face!)

And our bold immature GB Heron is posing nicely for all the park visitors.

Still a variety of damselflies and dragonflies out & active. Got some good shots of a (for us) rather rare dragonfly - the Mocha Emerald.

For some reason, this has been an excellent season for Buckeye butterflies. Great fun for the schoolchildren to discover in their school yards!

Painted Lady butterflies are usually rather scarce here, but the wild sunflowers' abundant bloom has been drawing them in. (which pose do you prefer? Closer, or more of the habitat?)

We're also seeing more than our usual quota of Viceroys - again perhaps because of the very abundant wild sunflower bloom this year...

Misty cool mornings, sunny bright afternoons... autumn is definitely beginning to touch our landscapes here. Looking forward to more rambles in the sun & rain of the coming season, and hope you enjoyed these views.

Thanks for any comments, suggestions & criticisms!

absolutely gorgeous series as always! keep em coming I enjoy the painted lady shot #2 due to the bokeh, composition, and lighting but they are all winners.

that last shoot is perhaps my favorite, love the composition and the rising fog really makes the shot

Great bird & butterfly shots, Love the Mocha Emerald Damselfly as we do not have them in MA.

We are now having Hawk migration in MA. Last weekend I was at Mt. Wachusette in West Central MA to observe and count.

We saw about 30 Broad Wing, 8 Red Shouldered, several Sharp Shinned and 2 Kestrels. We also had a flyover by a Bald Eagle and a large number of Turkey Vultures. None were low enough to be able to get any useful photographs except the two Kestrels but I had put my camera away and they then showed up (wouldn't you know).

Outstanding series, Mole.
I love the butterfly shots, ours have been rather scarce this year.
