Default New owner of a Kx

Just bought the Kx with the kit lens from Amazon outlet for $462. I've been contemplating getting the Kx with the 50-300mm but since I already have invested a good amount of money on the G1 m4/3 system, I thought buying the Kx would not be a smart move. So a few weeks ago I bought the Oly EPL1 to go along with my G1 for portability. I paid exactly the same price for the EPL1 (also Amazon open box) but really disliked the camera. So, when I saw this deal, I figured it would be worth it a try. I also did some research on the zoom lens and the general consensus is that the Tamron 70-300mm LD Di is a good alternative to the DA (and a much cheaper one). So, if I decide to keep the Kx, most likely I'll get the Tamron as well. I should get my new camera in two days!

Thanks for the congrats. and welcoming. I'm looking forward to it. I have many Pentax K mount lenses (various brands) I've been using with my G1, which now I'll be able to use on the Kx. I assume the Kx (like the K100D) allows focus trap, am I correct.

Excellent buy...I just returned from a camera shop with my friends, who bought the KX kit with 18-55 and 55-300.

I have the 55-300mm metal lens mount model...it's a fabulous lens IMO...very sharp. I don't know anything about the Tamron...but I would check some reviews vs Pentax 55-300mm reviews before you make the decision re: telephoto zoom.

Pentax 55-300 MM reviews :

Don't know if this is the Tamron....but here are some reviews:

If I decide that I really want to go with the DA 55-300mm, then I'll return the kit I just bought and wait for the price of the two-lens kit to come down (as it recently has) because adding the cost of the 1-lens kit + the 55-300mm makes the package a much more expensive one. I bought the single-lens kit assuming I'll be buying the Tamron instead. I need to look more into it. I just thought that for $462, it was well worth trying out the camera.

Congraculations Tullio I was edge of the buying a k-x but i couldn't find it's kit telezoom lense,

when i searched around, Tamron 70-300 was cheap and quality lense for K-X, of course there is no IS on the lense.

But please consider AF Speed with Sigma's 70-300 APO DG lenses before acquire Tamron.

Thanks. I assume the Kx has IBIS, right? The K100D and other older models have it. If that's the case, having IS on the lens is not a biggy.

think the reason why buying the 55-300 is more expensive buying ti seperately is because you get the DA 55-300mm not the DAL 55-300mm you get in the kit

notable differences between the two are the DAL has a plastic mount and doesn't have the quick shift full time manual focus override that the DA version has however optically they are the same
