Nice shot Ira, but it looks like he better get going or he won't be fat enough to make it through the winter.

Doesn't winter start tomorrow up there?

It looks like a cross between a couple of our squirrels - very unusual looking. Nice picture.

The first thing I thought of as soon as I saw this was ..... a Marmot.

Google Images came up with shots very similar - grey area on the back.

He really doesn't look fat enough does he ?

Hi Ira,

Nice capture!

My first guess would have been Prairie Dog, except for the gray spotted back.

I took the time to look them up --

Apparently they are unusual in that their body temps can go below freezing during hibernation. Scientists are studying them to see if they can discover how they avoid brain damage while maintaining only about 10% of normal blood flow. Pretty interesting animals, I'd say. . .

Snow huh? we had high 80s yesterday, down to mid 60s today, and back to the 80s tomorrow . . . the weather's been pretty weird, but not even close to winter. . .yet

Very nice shot, Ira!
especially at 70mm, you must have been fairly close.

I did crop a little but I got very close before he ran off.
