Default Rather Damp

After a week or two of very hot sunny weather, East Tennessee finally got some good steady cool rains. Have been very busy with park trails, school groups, and also preparing for upcoming events, but did have a few spare moments to get out & enjoy the cool & damp. Here is sunrise, just before the first big rains began...

Our resident immature GB Heron was unfazed by all the fog & drizzle, and kept to his favorite perch at the fishing pier.

Cool & damp is good for autumn foliage. We're already seeing some fine autumnal tints, and hoping for plenty more in a few weeks.

Of course, rain is great for all the fungus "among-us." New species appearing daily!

We've also seen a sudden rapid growth and bloom of Beech Drops - a flowering plant with no chlorophyll that is a parasite of Beech trees.

Cold and damp is not great weather for insects - but here is one "cool" viceroy, and very wet caterpillar...

Rains are over for a bit, we are enjoying wonderfully cool & bright days. Will not have much time to share any photographs for the next few days, but hope you enjoyed these damp ones!

Thanks for any comments & critique!

as always amazingly beautiful shots - love the sunrise shots and the catepillars are fantastic looking beasties and the butterfly again is gorgeous - dont know how you do it nothing stays still long enough for me to get a photo of - out of matter of interest do those catepillars turn into that butterfly species or something different?

Lovely shots Mole. We have some very nice foliage in our area right now, but I've been so busy I haven't had time to shoot any photos.
