Default K-x focusing screen

I'm thinking about upgrading my old DL2 to K-x and I was wondering if it's possible to change focusing screen of K-x. I have split/prism screen in my DL2 and wouldn't go back to plain screen, so is it possibe?

Yes it is. Do a search in this Pentax forum and there was a thread recently (last month or so) about focusing screens.

I bought mine from here and it is excellent.

Thanks.
Wow, they are expensive. The one I have in DL2 was made by some guy in Hong Kong from old minolta focusing screens and he was selling them for peanuts on ebay few years ago.

Greg
I think nowadays anything under US$50-75 is good value. Katzeyes are US$200 a piece and from what I've heard and read not that much (if at all) better.

Thanks for the link, I had a Hong Kong screen in the DS that was stolen from my son. With one of these screens I would consider a KX and use my older (better???) glass.

I bought a screen for my K-7 from Frog's link, and other than the fact I got creamed by customs (was almost as expensive as buying a Pentax screen locally) I am more than happy with it. Took me all of 30 seconds to swap out.

Very cool but it appears to be a very tricky process. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable installing the screen myself.

Here's what I don't get...why can't Pentax (and other manufacturers) produce cameras with one of these screens already installed? I'm sure they can either produce it or buy the screens from a third-party vendor for peanuts (there's nothing much to it, really). Just the simplest split screen would be better than no screen.

Trust me it's really easy, if I can do it at my office desk in 30 seconds with my big sausage fingers anyone can do it.

OK, that's encouraging! Now I need to choose one style. Perhaps I'll get the cheapest, which is like the type I used to have on my old Ricoh SLR.

Yes, exactly what Ash said (Tachi). I was nervous before hand but it took less than a minute and no problems at all since.

Big improvement for me, and they actually send you proper tools to install it too.
