Default Aspect Ratio? Pentax k-x

What is the aspect ratio of the images that the Pentax k-x creates?

Just picking a nit -- Oly and Panasonic are 4:3, but all the rest are 3:2.

thanks, the reason I ask is because I want to get a digital photo frame but I was not sure which aspect ratio to get since the frames come in 4:3 and 16:9.

It will still work, I have a 4/3 frame and the 3/2 still looks fine.

I got 16:9 frame and don't like it that much. It's 7" but to fit whole photo it either crops them on top and bottom or leaves two black stripes on sides which makes it like 5" 4:3 frame. I'd say get 4:3 frame.

The sensor aspect ratio doesn't restrict the output jpg ratio. The Sony alpha series lets you choose 16:9 if you like (and a quick search says Olympus e-620 does that and more). This was a major criteria for me in camera selection. I still wonder if any Nikons do 16:9 jpg. This info is sometimes available but the pros that do camera reviews usually don't have any interest in stills at 16:9. So they may not cover it.

Since the Pentax shoots 3:2 you just leave yourself a little breathing space in the short axis (the "2" of the 3:2 ratio) and then use a program like Picasa to crop to 16:9. Cameras that offer other ratios like 16:9 are actually cropping the image anyway so it is better if you decide where to crop after the fact.

I couldn't see cropping hundreds of photos for display on an HD TV. I want the camera to do it for me. I like the choice of 3:2 also so I could shoot full-sensor for those pics I know I want to work on (a small minority).

Since it's really just a firmware change, it would be nice if the pro-sumer and higher cameras would offer this choice. Would be best if they also cropped or put lines on the ovf but not absolutely necessary. It isn't too hard to leave the a bit at the top/bottom empty.
