shot a number of these.. this is a 100% crop.. with the k20 and kit lens....
i thought there were mocking birds until mom and dad showed up.. also
when the chick moved around and the color under the wings was red...

Now that's a strange-looking bird. You must have been able to get pretty close, even with the crop - surprised Mom and Pop didn't show up before you could take the picture. Would never have guessed that something this ugly (sorry, but I think it is) was destined to grow up to be such a pretty bird. Neat shot, in spite of the funny-looking face.

it took me ages of looking to figure out what i was looking at
how high of the ground was the nest?
how close to the bird were you?
