As very much a junior member (47 posts in 3+years!!! Although in my defence I seem to have 2 usenames. Mind you the other name has less than 300 posts) I'd like to add my thoughts.
I agree with the sentiments expressed by Harriett and Jim. To me the challenge has always been just that, a challenge! It should encourage folk to try things out, to stretch and develop their skills. Yes there are rules, some obvious like actually using a Pentax/Samsung; others like the 90 day rule is to support the challenge. I mean, how many of us could look back through their photos taken over the last few years and find suitable candidates every month? But that's hardly a challenge is it?
If someone takes a good photo, why shouldn't someone look at it and want to say so. No-one is going to be swayed by a comment any more than they'll be swayed by the first vote cast.
As you can probably deduce by my lack of posts, I don't enter the challenge that often but when I do, I appreciate someone saying something positive. Hells bells, if we were really being strict, would we allow people to change their entry?
Sorry, have prattled on long enough. One of the reason why this is the only forum that I regularly(for me) visit and post to is because I have found the other members to be friendly and supportive. There are lots of real competitions all over the place with strict rules. Why can't we just, in Jim's words, lighten up and enjoy the challenge.

Now to see whether I've got a photo to contribute or do I need to brave the November weather here in the UK and get out there shooting! I hope the former

I have given this a lot of thought and I too find myself in agreement With Jim, Keith and Harriot.
I do not consider this a Contest. A Contest To me would have much Stricter rules. I Consider it a Challenge. Just a way to have fun and to try to get yourself out of your Comfort zone.
I do agree with Jim and Keith on one very large item. PLEASE do not let this divide the forum!!! IMO this is the only forum i visit, because of the People that post here. None of the Bickering, and other things that happen. There's just a bunch of people that are friendly and helpfull.

Phil

OK, now I'd like to comment on my entry - it's pretty bad, I rushed the set up and post processing. But, hopefully this will get us back on topic.

Go ahead and critique it to death, I'm feeling confident, my Buffalo Bills finally won a game, and the Sabres are on a roll too, which made me think of another rule change to consider. Next time the Challenge ends in a tie, lets do what the NHL does - have a "shoot out".

Jim

The shootout is an interesting idea - the two people tied get 3 shots? Does that mean the person who's hosting would be the goalie? Sorry, as a hockey fan I just had to say something like that.

I will let this one keep my place for now, not much to shoot during a blizzard. Can you guess what it is? THIS IS NOT MY ENTRY

Great idea!

2 photographers, in a dusty main road, the townsfolk taking cover in the saloon; each armed with a dSLR and their favourite lens, both waiting for the other to make a move.

. Oh hang on, that's not what you meant ...
