A worthy POTD (understatement OTD). Congrats, Harriet!

Not surprising at all. Good choice for an entry.

You may win with this one - but what will you do with a Canikon lens?

After the photo is gone from the home page, it can be found here:

Thank you all for your well-wishes!

JohnG - you were the one that made the suggestion to enter it - I wasn't all that sure it would be good enough to go anywhere. I'm delighted that you were right (and surprised that they chose it so soon, I only entered it a couple of days ago).

The funny thing is that this is the first picture I tried that morning. In one way I was a bit disappointed with it because I didn't have the pier centered, so the zoom lines/light trails for the reflected lights go up rather than down. Also, while I loved the colors, there's a bit of lens flare or light reflection from dust on the lens (not the sensor) or something on the upper left. On the other hand, the upward light trails makes the picture unusual.

It isn't difficult to do - a steady tripod is more important than a steady hand. The zooming part isn't difficult (just twist the ring), though going faster or slower, and differences in shutter speeds give you different effects. It's a technique to experiment and have fun with more than anything.

Thanks again for the compliments.

Thanks again for the compliments, everyone.

Penolta - I don't have to worry about that - there is no way this picture is going to win this month. I've been looking at many of the pictures this month, and there's a couple that just are incredible - one of them will win for sure. I'm just delighted that it got chosen at all.
