Default A Couple of Macros

Nothing special - I actually just wanted to see these little (5mm) flies that look so pretty when they are flight with their purple / multi-coloured wings. Ended up trying the AFA with a couple of lenses but dispensed with it for these (all Tamron 90 except the green & black pyjama striped fly).

Here we are in early December and it was still 22C outside today so some flies, butterflies and mosquitoes (not even half hearted attempts to bite me today) were still around.

Can anyone tell me what the flowering tree is ? These tiny flowers are extremely sweetly fragrant and the lovely scent permeates the whole garden.

These are nice, Kevin...!

I don't have a clue what the flower is but I like the Flies... Are the last two licking
sap from the damaged area on that plant...?

Thank you for your kind comments Wizzard & Gary !

I usually try to get as much detail as I can but, as you say Gary, I loved their colours so these are 'full body' shots For #3 I just liked the outline on the twig and the hair detail plus the lovely bokeh from the Tamron 90 (I think the site compression software introduced those twirls because it's just smooth smooth smooth in the original

Good to see some more macro work from you, Kev!
I just haven't been able to get out and do anything lately.
BTW, they all look smooth on my monitor except #2, it looks a little over sharpened maybe.

Great Macros with great detail. I surely need to get out and give it a go to see if I can even come near duplicating your skills

Thank you John ! Just get yourself out into your garden (if it's not snow-covered) ! I don't think #2 is over-sharpening, it puzzled me for a while but I think it is more the leaf texture - although because of the size of the fly it has been cropped more than the others so it could be maybe that too.

Thank you for the kind comments Eddy !

Nice series,
really like the light on nr3 gives a different dimension to the shot.

Thank you Ronny & Patty - I selected #3 just for the light / bokeh, it is also my favourite from this small set.
