Default Hopeless Photographer

I know there are backyard mechanics that work out of there garage at home but, a photography studio in the work shop!?

The wife's getting pretty perturbed with all my light stands and tripods getting in her way around the house so, I've been band to the shop. I'm going to insulate and drywall a 12X20 ft section and turn it into my studio.
Of course I couldn't wait for all that to be done before trying it out. I mean, since I had to move my stands out there anyway... why not set them up and give it a tryout?
So, here's my little experiment. It didn't turn out quite as well as I hoped but the main thing is I learned a little something about lighting. And reaffirmed that my 18-55mm isn't very sharp, (and that's an understatement.) anyway I set up a backdrop and some lights and took a few shots of some camera stuff, just for the fun of it. Hopefully things will go much better when I get everything completed.

First, I just spread a furniture moving blanket over a work bench and then set things up.

A shot of my wife's camera. believe it or not, I ended up using two camera mounted flashes to light things up.

I moved the camera over under the umbrella so I could get a better shot of the flash set up I used. They are both swivel and bounce heads so, I can get creative...

Now I can hardly wait to get my new soft-boxes, the light bulbs arrived today in a separate package, three 500 watt and three 1000 watt bulbs! these were extra bulbs the original owner sent me when I purchased the soft-boxes which I think was pretty nice of the guy, since they weren't part o the deal!
here's a shot of the 1000 watt bulb.

I'm not going to show these pictures at home, or I might end up sleeping in the garage.

Great story GW

Ha Ha - I did mention that I thought your wife would be curtailing your 'living room adventures' shortly ! Now you have to persuade nubile young things that your spartan studio is the workplace of a true artisan !

You're right, Ronny. You don't want to give the ladies any ideas, they'll jump right on them!

Thanks for the kind reply, Mole.
I can't wait either, (obviously.)
It will take me a couple months to get er done due to budget and all.
I was hesitant to even post these photos but, though what the heck, sometimes behind the scenes isn't all that beautiful, but interesting just the same.

Kev; I'm not sure how to respond to this without incriminating myself.

Keith; I think that applies to a lot of us.

Ira; Speechless, huh?

Be careful about Kevin's ideas - you might become a "Homeless" rather than "Hopeless" photographer!
