Using flash with manual lenses is definitely different (that looks like a manual lens - no contacts for it to talk to the camera). I did OK using the 540 in A mode, but couldn't quite get the hang of on-board flash with them. From what I thought, the on-board flash will fire full power (since the lens doesn't communicate with the camera and the camera doesn't know what to do). About the only thing I could think of is to close the aperture and set the camera to shoot with a - Ev on the flash, and even then I didn't get very good results.
