John - Just keep telling yourself that the lens makes all the difference. That should help. Of course, wouldn't it be nice to shoot birds using ISO 6400 with very little noise?

Great shots, I know what you mean about sharpness, using DOF to zone focus was simple with film, there always seemed to be a great enough margin for error to make for a good shot. With digital it seems that you must be absolutely accurate or your image will hopelessly out of focus.
