Default January Challenge - Blue Hour

The topic will be the blue hour. According to wikipedia it is "the period of twilight each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness". I was thinking this was good as no matter where in the world you are, everyone can do it. Although, then I remembered Ira. Is this going to be a problem for you and some others in your situation?

There is a website at http://www.bluehoursite.com/ to help you calculate the best time to get the best light at a certain location.

As usual, one photo per person, taken with a Pentax or Samsung dSLR in the past 90 days.

Good luck everyone and thanks for the votes on the December challenge.

Patty

Hm, this sounds somewhat familiar... maybe there was a similar topic in the bi-weekly shootout not long ago?

Otherwise I'm fine with the topic - I like that time of day anyway .

Kind regards,
Th.

There was "The Magic hours" in the Biweekly Shoot Out (2010, April 21-May 4), maybe that's the one I remember... sorry for the confusion I may have caused.

I like the topic - there's a huge difference between the golden hour and the blue hour. And I'm often already at work at that hour and have been thinking of going for a walk instead of to the gym.

Couldn't agree more, up here in the Arctic the blue hours are characterized by cool skies and blue snow, unlike the red/orange glow of the golden hour.

I also agree that this is a fine topic. There's a huge difference between the golden hour and the blue hour. I just hope I find the time (or make the time) to post an entry this month.

Okay, since Ira seems okay with it and the comments so far are all positive, we are going to stick with the Blue Hour. Here is another page giving some info on it - http://shutterbug.com/newsletter/052510other/

As I keep waiting for it to be warmer during the day for taking photos, I pick a topic when the photo has to be taken when the temps are at their coldest. I must be crazy.

Let's see what everyone can come up with. Should make for some lovely images.
