Finally, we went up to Roan Mountain, my favorite place in the whole world (that i have actually been to) :

Vole, these are beautiful. As I commented on Mole's recent post, I have wanted to visit the southern balds for many years, and Roan Mountain is the one I have heard the most glowing reports about. It may have been cold, but you were fortunate to have sunshine and blue skies.

Sure was a great day on the mountain Vole - we'll have to do it again sometime soon!

Hard to choose a favorite among all of these great photos - your skilled eye for composition really shines through on all of them! It was tough to capture the wide dynamic range but you did well. I especially like the 1st two, something about the stories in each especially appealling...

frogfish: thanks! (yeah, i did hike alot over break, but at the same time i was getting alot of good home cooking. i think they probably canceled each other out )
mtnman: thanks! yeah, i grew up going to roan mountain a few times a year, but i didn't appreciate it as much until i don't live near there anymore.

Very nice series. The second one stands out, but I always love pictures like the first one (have taken quite a few of snow track pictures, they are always fun).
