Default Red-Shouldered Hawks

Today in Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge I observed two Hawks refurbishing the nest they used last year. I also observed them mating. Looks like they are planning to use the same location they successfully raised two chicks last year.

Photos here are from after mating. 9Will post mating photos in another thread)

K5, DA* 300mm lens

Wonderful shots again. How far away from these birds are you ? Are you in a hide ... and if not how do they react to you, d they seem to recognise you now and treat you less of a threat ?

Ed, these are spectacular shots! It is not often that one can capture a mating event such as this. I have to find a A*300 somewhere one of these days.

I am not in a hide. I am in the open, they are on a cypress island with about twenty feet (six meters) of water between me and the island. The Hawks have become used to photographers and these two mated on a tree right on the edge of the island. The nest tree is a little further back.

I am envious. The light is so nice, the colors great and the images look clean and sharp. It must have been some great time to watch these birds...

Thanks for sharing!
