Thanks for the comments.

News North asked for some pictures so some of these may find there way into the local paper.

BTW the same battery is still in the K10, and still showing a full charge after four hours at -20C (220 images) plus an additional 150 images at room temperature that evening. I am impressed. I left the vertical grip back in Gander on the K20 so this was just with the single in-camera battery.

Is the battery a generic or a real Pentax battery? I just tossed out a generic I bought right after buying the K7, about 18 months ago. Even new it wouldn't hold a charge as well as the Pentax batteries, and now it doesn't hold a charge at all. I think I'm going to buy a Pentax battery instead of another generic.

I've had my K10D Pentax batteries (two) for over three years and so far (touch wood) they don't seem to be losing their ability to hold a charge.

I've been using them year round, knocking off a lot of shots and they seem to be doing fine.

I am impressed. I think I would continue with genuine Pentax batteries.

Absolutely fascinating series and account Ira !

I really enjoyed reading through this thread and the scenes that I am unlikely ever to witness in person.

Thank you.

It was a genuine Pentax battery, I also have two generic batteries and they are not very good, maybe half the shots of the Pentax. Even when new the generics were not reliable for many shots.
