Default Snow & Blue Hour

Snow continued most of last week - unusual for East Tennessee. This gave me much-needed time to catch up on some park projects, and also to go out and enjoy the snow!

Some days were just partly cloudy, and enough wind & warmth to thin the snow cover noticeably.

Several mornings of temperatures well below 10 degrees F (again, unusual for Tennessee) yielded some amazing ice crystals - damp red clay soil freezing fast "grows" needles and ribbons of ice.

A fine clear night gave me a chance to check out the "blue hour" from a nearby hillside (Thanks again to Patty for encouraging us to check this out). It was amazing how fast the sky changed!

(ps - do you find the star trail in 1 & 3 to be distracting?)

We had just a few more flurries later in the week, and then some fine sunny weather moving back in. Will post some of those photos soon.

Thanks for "coming along" on these winter rambles, and thanks for any comments & critique!

Mole, I also like the snow crystals very much. The blue hour photos are superb, and I do not find that the star trails distract -- in my opinion, they add to the photos,

Those Ice crystals are quite different from anything I've seen up here. The blue hour shots are also nicely done.

um, what are those last photos? how did you take them? i want to know!!!!
the blue hour pictures... i can't decide about the star trail. i think it is because there is only one of them in the vertical. that makes it almost awkward. but the horizontal image has a few star trails, and it seems better in that photo, more natural.
