Default One more cold shot

A Dying Breed, sled dogs are now a hobby since they have been replaced by the snowmobile in most cases.

K10D, DA 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AL (first series) -18C

That is a DEW line site in the background. Here it really was the "cold" war!

Seldom, but some still use them occasionally.

WOW I didn't realize how far north you were until I researched what the DEW line was.

A very cool shot - low tech and high tech. I can't imagine being a guy who would be stationed at one of those sites - isolation all around both literally and figuratively. At least you have the contact of your students and the townsfolk, someone working at a (relatively) secret site would have very little of that. A tough way of life, that.

The facility here has been automated for many years and is controlled from somewhere in Ontario. A helicopter shows up every few months to check it out. TV cameras watch the area around the facility and the locals wave at the tower whenever they go by (it is a favourite summer fishing spot).

Having owned a Siberian Husky for 12 years, I really like this shot. These dogs absolutely are born to pull and they have an enormous amount of energy. Their personalities are another story.

That's a great photo Ira. I also like the juxtaposition of low tech and high tech.
