Default Photographic Value Pack !

Guys n gals maybe you can give some advice here. I am playing around with the idea of putting together a value pack of items that I can pick up at great prices in China (from my local mall in many instances) and that would provide great value for money for a lot of people.

It's only really worth my while doing this as a package though, as Chinese overseas postage rates can be exorbitantly high ..... more than the UK for example.

I would want around 15 - 20 items in the Value Pack, including such as :

Single camera strap - (Chinese equivalent of Black Rapid) (if preferred then a double camera strap could be included for a small extra ... or two singles).

WB Lense Cap (s) - slips on in place of your lense cap (different sizes available, 49mm up to 77mm) to enable you to set a very accurate WB in camera for difficult scenes.

5 way mini Reflector - folds down, weighs nothing and would easily fit in a large purse, bag or back-pack.

Rocket (type) blower & Lens Pen (two ended, brush and cleaning tip).

Softbox for pop-up flash.

Remote Control - cable or IR

Generic Metal Hoods (petal or wide) - for 49mm or 52mm or another popular size.

Soft lense bags (S,M,L)

Pop-up Flash cloth diffuser (fits in your pocket - I carry one everywhere).

Flexible legs tripod - similar to the one you already know, for wrapping around things ! In three sizes !

Mini-Torch - powerful yet tiny.

Wireless flash triggers

Wireless flash controllers

Water-resistent camera covers (some Pentax users smiling here - but what about using your non-water-resistent lenses too ) ?

Extension tubes

and other bits and pieces that you always mean to buy but either never get around to it or they seem expensive for what they are.

Postage to Eur / Aus / USA

... and maybe an interesting novelty item or two like a Simalens 100/2 (flexible plastic lens - I have one on order to try this out first - comes in various mounts), has a 45 degree flexible head with slip-in aperture 'disks' for a toy camera look.

It would be around US$150 including postage (and of course a little profit !) and could be tailored to Pentax, Nikon or Canon shooters.

Can you think of anything else that all shooters need that should be in there (can't be heavy or bulky) and what do you think of the idea ? Could be a nice gift idea ? I'm really interested to hear if it's something you think some people - even if not you - would be interested in.

Thanks for ANY comments !

Well guys I am really surprised no-one has answered this - after 84 people have read it not one response ! I have multiple responses on all of the other forums I've posted this on and I was hoping you people could add something because you know what you want/need, for the most part are experienced and because I respect your opinions. Disappointed

I would like:

1. a nice bag to carry my small fz38, my tcon 17 and lens adapter, and my filters, spare battery
2. a case to hold my few 46 mm filters
3. a low cost carbon tripod foldable
4. a good quality cleaning kit
5. either pany lc55 or raynox 250 close up lens
6. a decent flexible leg tripod

Thanks DML.

Hmmm most of those are quite specific or are from major manufacturers which means pretty much the same price everywhere (Pany / Raynox). Tripods / bags are great value here but are either too large / heavy for this pack or there are too many variations to make these viable for a Value Pack. However the cleaning kit is a good idea (I've had people mention a Sensor cleaning kit too) and I'll have to see what is available.

I'll have one of whatever you're drinking !

I didn't reply as I was waiting to see what others might think, but here's my take:

It's a good idea, but you have to be aware of the perceived quality of Chinese goods, even though there's nothing wrong with them most of the time (I have a fake battery grip, batteries, cleaning kits, bags, etc and am happy with them) a lot of people won't touch them with a bargepole.

I think you would do better selling them individually or in smaller matched groups, I for example would love to buy some cheap flashes, wireless triggers and controllers in a bundle, but not with the stupid £1 buy it now, £49.99 postage sales from eBay. The Simalens again sounds very interesting and I wouldn't mind seeing it and messing around with one.

It will be more of a pain for you though as it means more trips to the post office for smaller money.

If you could get camera bags delivered cheaply enough though I think you will make a mint, they are so overpriced it's not even funny.

Thanks for commenting Ash ! Some interesting points.

The post office is actually just 30 yds from the entrance to my office building so no hardship there (and my secretary will do it anyway since there is writing in Chinese required - beyond my meagre knowledge) !
