Thank you Ronny - very kind words !

Thanks Hards !

Cheers Mtnman - I have to say I'm really loving it even more than I thought I would !

Thank you Scott, it's an amazing lense - I'll try to look at those file size parameters, problem is that when linking to SmugMug they only give you S,M,L,XL,XXL etc. so it's a wild guess on my behalf as to which falls within the site's limitations.

A fine lens in some great hands! Some really fine bird portraits here - capturing the personalities as well as the details.

My wife especially liked #1 - so cute & "fat" looking!

Hi Kevin,

I use Flickr, but I'm assuming that they are set up similarly. Call me paranoid, but I think it's a good practice to only upload full res images to the private access portion of an online photo site unless I want to illustrate a point with the full res pic.

I use the public access section of my account is pretty much only for posting to fora and the images are always downsized already to this forum's specs (less than 1024 pixels on the long side and less than 254 KB in file size) -- I usually use 800 pixels on the long side and try for the minimum compression that gives me files of less than 200 KB). This way I can choose Flickr's "Original" res for the images that I post, and I'm not risking unknown further processing on the images by either Flickr or the forum. Flickr's software also seems to strip exif for the lower res versions on the site, so they're not as suitable for posting on a photo forum.

If for whatever reason someone might want to "borrow" one of my images for his own use, then he'll have to be satisfied with a less than one MP version, and it probably wouldn't be worthwhile. . .

Scott

Thanks Scott - I believe you may be right.

Mostly I'm uploading full size versions so even the L versions may be too big to meet the forum parameters. I'll try down scaling them 'in-house' before uploading to SmugMug and see how that goes.
