Default Real Ice Road trucking (at last the K20D)

Here are some shots from today's drive from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk on the Mackenzie River ice road. These were shot with the K20D and two lenses, the FA 28-105mm f3.2-4.5 IF AL and the FAJ 75-300mm f4.5-5.8 AL, both quite nice actually.

A little early for swimming. Seeing tugs, ferries and barges "parked" by the side of the road is interesting.

Very interesting shots and well done too, Is that what you do for excitement up in the big deep freeze or just a trip shopping.

Love the pictures, but it sure looks cold. That log building looks interesting - what is it? Just don't think I'd want to drive on an ice road - do they use studded tires or something else for traction on the ice.

Fascinating pics, Ira. I haven't seen very many episodes of "Ice Road Truckers" but it seems a bit more real-world now. It must take incredible courage (and perhaps a bit of madness) to be the first trucker to test the highway in the fall.

The logs for the cabin must have been hauled from quite a distance away, as I suspect you're well north of the tree line. How long does the ice road typically stay open?

Actually trees grow right up the Mackenzie river so Inuvik has trees but Tuktoyaktuk, which is on the ocean, has none. River basins extend the tree line much farther North.

Great shots, must be strange to drive on ice.

Cheers
