Default First Paid Shoot(s)

This afternoon I meet up with a British Pro whose working over here (does a lot of Sports events and fills in with studio work & private events etc. in between.

He's asked me if I want to work with him at the Irish Ball this weekend (shooting with wireless flash off-camera) and again at a golf event in April. I'm hoping I'm going to learn a lot from him and I'm particularly looking forward to the golf event !

Wish me luck !

Best of luck to you, I am looking forward to seeing some of the golf shots also since I am a golfer (shot 79 today, still not streached out or flexable after the winters respite from the game). Great to hear of your offer from someone you can learn from.. Best of times doing something you love and getting paid for it. They say it isn;t work if you love doing it!!! Peace and good fortune to you!! Frank

Thanks Frank - I am really looking forward to it, it will be great to get to learn from a Pro. Last year I was the personal driver for the world's most recognisable golfer at a major event in China and this year I have the option of doing that again or getting a press card and working with this guy to cover the same event ... not sure which way to go on that one yet !

Great opportunity! It will be interesting to hear from you after the fact to see what you learned and what your impressions are. Good luck and enjoy the experience!

Wow, Kevin! What an opportunity!! Quite a dilemma over the press card. Sure is going to be a great experience either way. Good on ya!

Thank you John !

Thanks Gary - I've done the driving bit last year (8 days & nights) so know the guy & the job. I'll just have to see when the time comes around, I don't want to let anyone down.

Thank you Armando - I sure will !

We met up today just for a chat on what to bring and for him to take a look at my kit (he was impressed with the 43 Ltd - though it won't be wide enough for the group shots tomorrow so I'll be using the Tamron 17-50/2.8 or possibly even the Sigma 10-20 (he thought this might not give the right perspective) depending on the size of the groups. The event will be held in a lovely 5 star hotel. 2 hours to set up and test.

One tip he gave today which may come in handy for anyone doing family gatherings or weddings : if you've tried a couple of shots and still have people with their eyes closed, ask them all instead to close their eyes and open them on the count of three .... guaranteed they'll all have their eyes open !
