Poor thing! Botflies were a big problem in Texas for horses - seemed like I was always scraping botfly eggs off of my horses' legs.

It doesn't seem to bother him any - he never scratches at it.

A fellow graduate student of mine came back from a few months in Mexico with a large one on the back of his neck. You dould look into the breathing hole and see it moving around in there! He had it removed surgically.

I should have mentioned earlier that Reddy is an introduced Eastern Fox Squirrel.

Thanks for the ID - I gather that this must be the most common squirrel in the LA basin? There's sure lots of them around West L.A. - many of them way too tame for their own good.
