Default GBH Nest

Was recently told about a nearby Great Blue Heron rookery. Very close to home, easy to get to, but no place for a clear shot. So these are not up to the standards of the REAL bird photographers here, but still some fun shots.

If it weren't for the big branch in the way, this might be a fairly nice family portrait:

Another nearby nest had some much younger nestlings (one is telling what he thinks of me...)

And here are mom & dad both perched at the edge of another nest.

All these were taken from almost 100 meters away, with Pentax SMC 135-600, trying to catch moments when branches were not swaying from the spring breezes. Not great photos, but hopefully you will enjoy these glimpses of the families. Any suggestions for getting better photos next time? Thanks so much!!

I really like this series, especially the ones of the parents together. Always frustrating to be able to see something without a clear line of sight - makes me dream of having wings of my own...

GBH do like to nest high and getting a shot of the nest is difficult. I also like the shots of the parents, Great job with that long manual lens, you got some fantastic detail.
