Default X Games - Shanghai - Part 1

Much to my delight I got my hands on a press pass for the X Games in Shanghai and set off, driving there, on the appointed day full of vim and excitement, 15 mins to drive the first 25 kms of my 30 kms trip and I was going to be very early ... 75 mins to cover the last 5 kms due to diabolical traffic jams (on a Sunday for goodness sake !) and I arrived ... late, with the first final already underway !

Actually the public viewing areas give you great access anyway, the press pass just made it a little better.

The events were multi styles of In-line Skates, BMX, Skateboarding and some MotoX demo stunts. Cameras used were the K5 & K7 with the Sigma 50-150/2.8 and DA*300 installed. Actually the perfect lense would have been a 70-200/2.8 ..... but I don't have one yet so the 50-150 was a superb stand-in !

Hope you enjoy this first taster - at the final count I have over 700 shots to process !

#1 - a couple of shots of the crowd to start

#2 - The Umbrella

#3 - Superman

#4 - Japanese Skateboarder

#5 - Andy MacDonald

#6 - Twist & Shout !

#7 - Bob Bernstein

#8 - Oops !

#9 - Under Construction

Amazing captures of the action - great timing and obviously lots of careful preparation!

Great action captures, the backgrounds add a lot of interest, as Mole said great timing. nice job on the exposures with the bright background.

Love the series! Love #6 and 7 - even though you didn't get the person's face, the contortion is pretty amazing. Like the wipe-out too, even if it's just a wipe-out, it shows just how difficult some of these stunts are to pull off. What's the big deal if you only show perfect form? Of course, I don't shoot sports much at all, and am completely clueless when it comes to this type of thing.

Thank you Mole - glad you enjoyed these !

Thanks Hans - appreciate your comments !

Thank you Harriet - I have a lot more shots to process (around 700) but these few seemed to stand out to me. As the head is usually tucked in, and the arm out for balance, it's usually not easy to see the face during the most interesting part fo the trick. Got a lot more wipeouts too !

It seems rather strange - I'm sure there were other replies to this thread before Mole's that seem to have disappeared. No ?
