These are stunningly beautiful photos Mole! Your "wave upon wave" photos are what I imagine as the classic image of the Great Smokies. (Although I know that Roan Mountain is not in GSM Nat'l Park.) I have never had the pleasure of hiking Roan Mountain, but I have heard many through hikers rave about it, and by the time they get to my area, it has been several months since they were on Roan. You have the very good fortune of living and working in a remarkable area, and I very much appreciate your sharing these remarkable images with us. Thank you for bringing us along!

MtnMan - Indeed Roan is a stunning place at any time or season, and a favorite of many through-hikers. It is geologically much like the Smokies, but not nearly as heavily used. Hope you can come enjoy it for yourself someday...
I am certainly blessed to live in such a lovely corner of the earth. Glad you enjoyed the hike!

Beautiful Photos of a Beautiful Place. I love the rhododendrons that look like a little island.
