Default July 2011 Monthly Challenge: Attentive audiences.

Okay, let me explain. Every summer there are numerous events that draw big (or small) crowds. We are all familiar with images of the events themselves but what about the audience? Often the reaction of the viewer is more interesting than the event itself! Try to get a shot that shows that reaction, even if the event is not obvious.

I know summer is a time to get away from the keyboard but let's try to get some more postings this month. Good luck and happy shooting.

Same rules as usual: Pentax camera in the last 90 days with the forum size limits.

Here are a couple of examples to get you thinking, one of a large audience and one of one onlookers reaction.

Hmmmm - too bad our local festival is the first week in August. Guess I'll have to find something else where there's some sort of audience. An interesting topic, but one that is going to be difficult for me to figure out. Good exercise!

Think simple, any performance that has an audience of at least one. Even the face of a sports fan watching a game on tv that they are very involved in.

I was thinking sort-of along those lines. The one picture I took that I thought fell into last month's category was of a girl doing jumping jacks in the shade of a tree on a very hot lunch time. Several of her friends were sitting down eating lunch, watching her while she worked out - that shot (if I had included the friends with the boom box) would have worked for both challenges. And I wish I had had a camera yesterday morning - there was a guy on a ladder painting the trim on a window, and 5 others standing around watching him, talking (supervising?). That would have been another good shot! Oh well...

I may change this later, but I thought it would be an interesting twist on the challenge. We have an event in our town on July 4 called the Fun Walk where several thousand people walk 2 miles while being entertained by a variety of music, dancers and others. Walking the route and taking pictures, an acrobat suddenly appeared above the crowd. What struck me about the shot is that nobody is paying the slightest attention to what I thought was a pretty clever stunt.

This is one from Pocono Raceway. Not many folks in the stands at this time. The girl walking down the bleacher steps had one person captivated.

My entry this month is of my nephew's grad ceremony. This is quite a milestone for him as he has ADD and the future didn't look very bright for him..But once he got into football,he focused more on school..and now he has graduated and is going to play ball in a small college in the States! I added a filter while post processing and I am not quite sure if it's in the rules..if not I can submit the original.

We've never had restrictions on processing before, don't think anyone will complain about your use of the filter. Congrats to your nephew, it's wonderful to hear about those overcoming.

I did not specify in the rules about post processing, I feel that as long as it is not a composite shot, nor hasn't been completely altered, the image is fine.

My photo is a strectch to fit the theme this month, but this thread needed a bump so here goes.

BTW -- does anyone know what kind of bird this is? He's new to my yard and quite agressive; chasing everyone else out.

Jim
