I had a similar experience that back fired on me. Off topic, but I've been looking for a stereo turntable to play my old records on. Found a Technics direct drive model at a garage sale. The man wanted $15. He said it worked, but not on his new surround sound system. I told him the newer systems may not have phono inputs and the phono pre-amp and that he could get a phono pre-amp fairly cheap and still make use of it. He thought about it and decided he would get a new turntable to which I responded they don't make them like they used to. He let me have it for $10. I took it home, and everything works except no sound - hopefully it just needs a new cartridge.

Regardless, you did the right thing.

Yeah. Does that mean a Pentaxian is re-born?

What a great story - and what a fine act of kindness! You made my day (and even more important - you made his day too!)

As a Nikon user with ten old MF lenses I was elated to know that the digital Nikons used the same lens mount. The lack of metering doesn't bother me. But the reality turned out to be that because of the DX crop factor I only use one of those ten lenses on a regular basis (105mm f/2.5) and another occasionally (400mm f/5.6) My favorite and most expensive film lens (17mm f/3.5) is now a paperweight.

I still think you did a good deed though by giving the old guy a starting point.

Good for you. Sure makes you feel good to do something like this. You really didn't lose as much as you might think.

My other hobby is genealogy and I find time and again, that for every good deed I do for someone I get multiple good deeds done for me. Things just seem to come out of nowhere sometimes that I've been searching forever.

What comes around, goes around!

I appreciate your support of my helping the old gentleman. It never occurred to me to do anything else. I should check back and see what he finally did.
