Default Odd Couple

For a brief period while I was photographing a Merlin on a dead tree a Belted Kingfisher joined it.

The kingfisher seems very intrigued by the merlin.

Your thread title is certainly appropriate, they sure aren't anything alike. The sleek raptor and the bad-hair-day kingfisher don't quite go together.

Odd couple indeed! How come when I try to take a picture of a Kingfisher I can't get closer than a 1/8 of a mile and this one lands right next to a bird of prey. LOL

That last picture is a dandy Ed.

I've also had problems getting closer than 1/8 mile to a kingfisher, I had 3 at at the cottage fishing my pond, they flew off when I opened my door. using my 55-300mm @300 I could just make out what they were zooming in X16 on the display. nice job Ed
