Default Mallards in Flight--More Impressive K-5 performance

I am not going to make the mistake of bragging of a specific distance that the K-5 can hold focus..... I will only say that I could not tell the variety of ducks in the first photo without the Sigma 50-500....what amazed me was the K-5 locking on focus and holding it with ducks in flight at this distance.

The next ones were easier to understand how the camera locked....less competing background,.... but distance was still amazing....

K-5 with a Sigma 50-500 (Bigma)

Nice shots Paul. Particularly like #2.

I've also found the Pentax K5 AF is barely lacking in comparison to the 7D (I haven't used the D7000 or D300s), maybe a fraction slower to lock on and just as accurate or indeed maybe more accurate.

I hope you don't mind me putting up this shot below, it's not competing in the beauty stakes for sure ! However it shows a Hoopoe in flight (this was shot with the K5/DA*300) at 80 yds (easy to accurately estimate the distance for a one-time serious golfer once I lowered the camera) and the K5 easily locked on and held it's focus even though this is a smallish bird (the second photo shows what it actually looks like). Again hope it's OK to add these to the thread Paul ?

More than OK.... what an interesting looking bird! I haven't used the 7D, but what an improvement over the K-7!

Really nice shots Paul! My K20 is still working well, but nonetheless I hope to upgrade to the K5 some day.
