Bluenose - Glad you enjoyed these! Judging from the trout, those mayflies sure must be tasty!

MtnMan - Thanks so much! Looks like we are missing the snowstorms, but have had some severe thunderstorms lately, including tornado warnings...
I will be sure to tell the Hermit Thrushes to be careful on their (soon) northward journey.

Wonderfuly photos, mole.

We've had a mild winter, too. Well, until the foot of snow that fell yesterday. But, tomorrow is forecasted to be in the mid 40's. But, this all as I watch the Weather Channel reporting on the 76 tornadoes that have all touched down just today and the death toll rising every report. Weather this year is crazy. I hope anyone in the path of these tornadoes has stayed safe.

I saw some wonderful photos yesterday on my way in to work. But, there was no way I was taking photos while driving or even trying to stop on the side of the road. They'll have to be in my memory now. It was so pretty driving through the snowcovered trees that were overhanging the road and making a tunnel for me to drive through.

Hi Mole, your photos got me to sign up here. Great shots! I'm going to be in the Fall Creek Falls area in two weeks. Do you think that's too early? I was planning on shooting waterfalls in the park, also at Virgin Falls. I'd like to see some flowers and some leaves on the trees. Should I put off my trip until April?

Do you work at the park?

Thanks,

Dave

Patty - So glad you enjoyed these spring scenes, and also that you got to enjoy (if not photograph) your wintry scenes! We were spared the tornadoes here, but many places nearby were not...

Dave - Thanks for your very kind words, and welcome to the forum!
To answer your questions - Yes, it's a bit early for the peak of leaves and blooms, but there should be some early blooms out already. April will be greener, but anytime at Fall Creek Falls is a great time to visit. I do work for the Tennessee State Parks, but not at Fall Creek Falls. Home park is in the Northeast corner of the state. Here are some links to a few photos I've taken at Fall Creek Falls, and at Virgin Falls:

Virgin Falls is one of my favorite places on the plateau. Be sure you take along a good trail map, and plan to spend the whole day if possible. Here's a link to the map:

While you are at Fall Creek Falls, be sure to ask the park staff about Cummins Falls - one of our newest State Natural Areas.

Please do PM me if you have more questions. (Note that I do not stop by here every day, so it might be a few days before I am able to answer.)

Fine images as usual from you.

Been thinking of you during these violent tornado episodes. Here's hoping they stick to the lowlands (although those folks would certainly wish them elsewhere).

Thanks for the info. I guess I will put off my trip until April. I have been to Fall Creek Fall twice before, but the last time was in the early 90's

Stay safe. We had a tornado hit down the street from our house this morning.

I never tire of seeing your nature textbook photos and your great narrative that goes with them. Outstanding Nature photo journalism!

I know I posted something in this thread, I just know I did

I really like the Harbinger of Spring, the Mayfly and the Grebe (even though a rear view - the most common view by far of this shy bird) !

Stay safe up there Mole.

Hope you weren't hit at all Dave.

Penolta - Thanks for your kind words and your concern. Tornadoes were in our region, but not very close to us. Just plenty of wind, rain, lightning, etc.

Dave - Hope you have a great trip, and will post some of your photos here. Also let's hope & pray this is the end of the violent storms for a while!

Lou - You are too kind!

Kevin - Thanks so much! Grebes sure are the shy ones...
