Default K-5 picture display slow to appear on monitor?

I was taking some photos in low light, in my house and I found when I pressed my picture display symbol...the picture was slow coming on to the monitor...in fact the hourglass showed.

Time for picture to display on monitor would be 2-3 seconds.... usually it seems instantaneous.

I took similar photos with my old K10D at the same time...the pictures appeared almost instantaneously on the K10D monitor ?

Not sure why...usually the K-5 outdoors will display picture on monitor almost instantly.

Any ideas ?

Hi Les,

My first guess is that you have black frame subtraction (shutter speed) NR activated (either Auto or On) in the menu.

My Kr does the same thing about once every 2 days, I have not narrowed down exactly under what conditions. FYI, I have high ISO and low shutter speed NR set to Auto. I will try to monitor the conditions it may be low light and the NR is kicking in.

The black frame subtraction would be my guess also. The only other times I have much of a delay seeing the pictures is when using the exposure bracketing and shooting raw, where it takes a fair amount of time to save the 5 files separately.

Thanks everybody....although I'm not completely sure what the issue was...I'm pretty sure it was the NR black frame subtraction....I did the reset a couple of times and that seemed to bring it back to normal.

I had been going through the menu and changing some of the settings and I think I must of messed things up there.

The K-5 sure is different from my original Pentax S1a SLR I bought new in '68....

Again thanks for the help....much appreciated.

There are two settings you need to look out for that will do this every time :

DR Range - both the Highlight and Shadow range settings, I always leave these off.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the hint...I will check the K-5 and make sure they are turned off.

Thanks, Les
