Default Beach Pelicans

Got some pelicans in flight from the beach the other day. They were flying close and I was able to get some shots with my 18-135. The last shot was with the 55-300. The 2nd shot almost looks like a cartoon with the feathers blowing back of it's head. I love the way they fly almost touching the water.

G'day Hans

You've done well with these action shots - the eyes sparkle ... well done
Your birds are a very different colour to ours in the great land downunder > and here I was thinking all pelicans were the same colour!!! Maybe it's like swans - both black & white in different hemispheres...?

Regards, Phil

Great photos, Hans. I also find the wind-blown feathers in #2 to be quite humorous.

Hans, they don't get much better than these. Great action shots! I agree with the above post that the eye detail is excellent.

Thanks Phil we also have white ones here, but haven't even seen one yet.

Thanks Lou. In one shot (not posted) I saw a partial transparent eye lid, they must use that under water.

Thanks ntnman. I couldn't believe my luck when I put the image on my computer

Absolutely superb. I love #4 but have a slight concern over #1.

The problem is not with the photo but with me. It looks almost cat-like with its head reating on it's front legs (in reality the far wing) while relaxing on ... well, nothing really.

Great shots.

Great shots Hans ! I really like #4 the best. They really are a very strange shape aren't they (look again at the last shot).
