Default 2:1 Macro Setup (alt title: "I love charity shops!")

Hello!

So I had to pop into town today to pick up a parcel (film developing tank to develop film with coffee granules if anyone's curious) and on the way back from the post office I thought I would pop into my favourite charity shop that has the odd random camera bits and bobs in a box. Today the manager wasn't there, big fella, about 6'4" and there was only a few sweet old dears there to serve me. As they couldn't reach the camera box they asked me to pop around the back and get the box from the top shelf and left me to it. As I was rummaging through the usual rubbish, the old dears started talking between themselves about me looking at old cameras and pulled out a few camera bags from behind random bits of junk. Along with the most awesome camera flash I have ever seen (will post photo's later) was a small bag with not only a Pentax ME Super, but a Carl Zeiss Jena 35-135mm f/3.5 lens, Pentax 50mm f/1.7 lens and a macro teleconverter! (Teleplus MC7 1:1 adjustable Macro)

I tried it with the Tamron 90mm Macro, set both to 1:1 (so in theory that should be 2:1 but it seems just a bit shorter than that) and the quality was pretty good, obviously softer than the Tamron on it's own, but the extra zoom more than makes up for it. For a grand total of 10 I am over the moon with today's purchase, and I thank the macro gods that the big boss man wasn't there today, I cannot wait for the bugs to come out in force so I can see what this combo can do.

I am soooooooooo envious!

I also love charity shops but have never, ever been lucky enough to find anything remotely interesting, let alone actually useful, related to cameras. Will have to look more closely in future.

What a great bargain

Cheers Keith

To be honest, I trawl through about 12 different charity/antique shops a fortnight and this one charity shop (shameless plug: Tŷ Hafan) always comes up with the goods, it's where I have bought Tamron adaptall 2 mounts and lenses for 3 a pop, flashguns for 2 and vintage cameras (which sell for 30+ in Banardo's) for pennies.

Something I didn't realise is charity shops rotate stock through different charities, I also bought an old Box Brownie from Tŷ Hafan today that had a Help The Aged sticker on it, so it pays to travel around the various charity shops.

OK, if you bump into an ageing grey-haired Englishman in Tŷ Hafan it'll be me

If there's anything in particular you are after, give me a shout, there's tons of stuff I pass over each week that might be of interest to someone, cine projectors, digital compacts, camcorders, etc.

Thanks Harriet!

Will post some images of it and the monster flashgun tonight when I get home from work. Hopefully my brother-in-law can find his multimeter so I can check the trigger voltage on it.

Here's the flash and TC mounted on my K7, it's absurd how big and heavy this thing is, I tried mounting it on two different off-camera flash arms and both struggled under it's weight
