Default Bald Eagles - a rare sight around here.

A pair of Bald Eagles have built a nest locally along the Lake Erie north shore in Port Colborne (where I was born and raised) on some private property. I just heard about it the other day and thought I would take the opportunity to check it out on our way over to my mother's house for Easter Dinner today. At one time Bald Eagles were actually native to this area but perhaps encroachment of man and even pesticide use drove them off. It's nice to know they are returning to the area. It's one thing to see these beautiful birds in captivity but I much prefer to see them in the wild. I wish I had longer/better lenses for this, I grabbed these with my 55-300mm lens right out at 300mm. They came out ok, but could have been better. The nest is pretty far from the road but you can see it clearly through the trees. This eagle was sitting in a tree right next to the road.

Nice grab shots of a spectacular bird Mike.

For the 55-300 you will get slightly better IQ, with no descernable loss of perspective, at 240-260mm than at 300mm.

Yes I always try to lessen down from 300mm to somewhere between 200 and 250, certainly makes a difference.

Amazing creatures of the avian world, thanks for sharing.

I went through my pictures again, I think this one is a little bit better than the other one.

Yes, that one is a bit better, in fact it's very nice. I've only seen a bald eagle a couple of times in the wild at various places and it's always a thrill.

Great news, and fine photos despite the limitations. That last photo is definitely the best - eye and beak so sharp and clear.
