Default Great Blue On Railing

Great Blue Heron landed within twelve feet (4 meters) of me in Green Cay Wetlands, I needed to back up to get complete bird in frame with 150-500mm lens.

Wow! Great captures.
ISO of 1600 and no noticeable noise.
Do you use shutter priority when shooting birds?

I use aperture priority and set ISO to lighting conditions. Dark background requires higher ISO for moving subjects and I am always prepared for BIF's.
