On the other hand, Little Wood Satyrs have been especially abundant here this year. Not too easy to approach, but well worth a few minutes' stalking...

Our HUGE emergence of Periodic Cicadas ("17 year locusts") is about over. Here's one of the last pairs (now the woods are getting quiet again!).

Just one more - was up at Roan Mt recently and spotted a recently-emerged Alder Fly. These big, weak-flying "bugs" spend most of their life in clean streams, emerging in late spring or early summer for a short life of mating and laying eggs.

It looks like it will be another great summer for all the insects. I am sure looking forward to exploring and sharing the discoveries, here at the park and with you as well! Hope you enjoyed these "buggy views," and that you will share your comments, critique & suggestions.

A really nice set of photos and especially the dragonflies !! I had a great time at "Dragonfly Day", it was well planed and executed and I even managed to get a few shots even if we did get a little wet. All of your photos are outstanding Marty !!!!! I did post a few of my shots (no where near as good as yours),, in the fuji section http://forums.steves-digicams.com/fu...tate-park.html Thanks for a great day Marty !!!

Keith - So glad you enjoyed the Dragonfly Day. Will go check out your shots and post some comments there.

Harriet - Thanks so much! We are indeed blessed with some wonderful butterflies. This past Monday found a new county record for another interesting butterfly. Hope to have time to post it soon...

Superb detail in the wings of the Hackberry Emperor.

You've done it again, another fine series of flying insects. The last 3 are my favorites.
