Default Some Mountain Views

Have been getting way behind in PP work on photos - out on the trail and out with park visitors A LOT on these fine summer days gives me some time for snapping shots, but not much time to process them.

So here are a few recent views from the higher places here in East Tennessee.

First a few scenes from a recent visit to one of my favorite high places, Grassy Ridge.

Grassy Ridge is just a short distance off of the Appalachian Trail up in the highlands of Roan Mountain - another great place for high-elevation summertime views!

There is a lovely State Natural Area very close to the town of Roan Mountain (located near the base of the mountain). Hampton Creek Cove State Natural Area is home to many rare & unusual plants and animals, and also a very scenic hike!

Several trails thread the natural area, but my family's favorite is the Overmountain Victory Trail. This is a national historic trail, following the path of the Overmountain Men as they travelled to the battle of King's Mountain. The most scenic part of the trail is the section in the state natural area, and on up to the gap. Here are a few scenes along the trail...

The trail leaves the Natural Area and continues on to the Appalachian Trail at Yellow Mountain Gap. Here are some views on up the AT, looking back towards the Gap, and some of the surrounding high places...

Hope you enjoyed these few glimpses of late summer in the high, green country! Will try to find some time soon to process and post more photos of the richness of this season.

Thanks as always for any comments, critique & suggestions!

Wow Mole, these are lovely. I hope someday to revisit the southern Appalachians. I last hiked in that area during the summer of 1975, when I was 17 years old, I think I'm overdue for a return visit!
