Default Raccoon

Friends of ours who are naturalists found three baby raccoons whose mother had been killed by a coyote. The one in the pictures was lying atop the other two to protect them. They were in very pore condition and no one knew how long they had been alone without their mother. Two died the next morning but this one who was the strongest has survived with much TLC from our friends.

They are trying to introduce the raccoon back into the wild as it is illegal to keep a wild raccoon. They let it free each night but it comes back. They are hoping that as it gets older it will find other raccoons and join with them. He is adorable and very friendly and is like a child, quite rambunctious.

He is eating a Pepperoni stick (a favorite); he also loves grapes, raisins and as you saw in the challenge picture roses. He is beginning to dig for grubs and worms and gets a dog food supplement to his diet.

Great shots. This critter looks a lot cuter than the ones I see in the middle of the night around our house!

Fantastic opportunity to get close to this animal - and you certainly made the most of it with some wonderful shots.

#1 and #3 are still content protected
