Default More Cormorants

A week or so ago, I posted a few foggy shots of cormorants at a new communal perch here in the home park. Had a chance to return several days later, when lighting was much better, and I was able to bring along a longer (Pentax SMC 135-600) lens. As mentioned before, our cormorants are VERY SHY when on the water, but, for some reason, much more approachable when up in the trees. Perhaps most of their predators come from the shoreline?? Or perhaps it is because they have to work so hard to take off from the water?? They are excellent swimmers and divers, and can achieve rapid flight from a perch, but it seems to take them much more effort to fly off from the water...

In any case, here are some "sunnier" cormorants!

First a few individuals (younger ones are paler) looking to the left...

Here is a pair, busy interacting with each other, and ignoring the annoying photographer!

Am looking forward to some more spare time to visit with these fine feathered neighbors. Sure do hope you enjoyed these glimpses into their lives, and that you will share your comments & critique!

I love these amazing birds. Some fine shots Mole.

Maybe they find it harder to take off from water because they are so loaded down with full stomachs !

Great series.

My favorite is this one due to the exposure and how it brought out a natural looking sky.

Nice series. Always like watching them, they seem so social in groups. I see large flocks when I'm in Mexico in Feb.

Nicely detailed shots of these amazing birds. Having so much water habitat here I seldom see them out of the water other than flying or sitting on a pier post but seldom perching on a branch like this.
