Thanks all for the comments it was exciting to be able to get the shots, after thinking about it the DA 18-135 with build in focus motor helped get a fast focus lock, it doesn't hunt to achieve focus, also shooting at f11 increased the DOF and that helped.

A little drive thru zoo with a walking area and a rehab center for birds. The ones flying can't be released. The trainers have them flying for food but are afraid the can't survive in the wild. The name of the place is Bearizona in Williams AZ, Interesting Route 66 theme and shops in the town.

Thanks for the information - we are going to be spending a week in Flagstaff in early Dec and I was looking for things to do (if the weather will cooperate).
