Ooh, cool shot! I like how that come out.

I've been out of town for the American Thanksgiving, and didn't have Internet access. Also, with the new AFA I haven't done anything with flash much. But don't let that stop any of you, there's only one more week left in the month.

Well, I had high hopes for this challenge - use of flash is one of my (many) weak points. But this month we've been so busy with our Christmas Bicycle Repair project, that I never did have time to try any new flash ideas. So here is a rather boring one - using fill flash for a backlit GB Heron.

This was an attempt to use the flash and the zoom together. Shot at one second on a tripod while zooming my 18-55 from from 55 down to 18. I hit the shutter release, the flash went and then I started zooming, thus the relatively clear chimney. The only post porcessing was a very small amount of Picasa HDR, some increased shadows and a very small color inhancement. Shot with the DL.

Glenn - I never thought about using the flash while zooming the lens - an interesting idea. Did you use slow speed sync or trailing curtain sync? I would assume that your shutter speed was slow enough to get the effects of the zooming action, slower than 1/180? A very cool idea.

Mole - did you use something like a Better Beamer or just an external flash? I really need to do more stuff with flash!

Some really creative shots !

I don't have an entry for this month but thought I'd put this up for fun (not taken with a Pentax) - sorry !

The very rare (in China) Japanese Robin. Taken just after dusk with a Better Beamer.

I shot it at 1 second. The flash went off and then I started to zoom. It came out pretty good considering I was using a really cheap tripod.

Thanks for the explanation Glenn, I wondered how you did it. I like how it came out, I'm going to have to figure out a way to use that somehow, its a cool effect.

Only a couple of more days for this month, still time to take some pictures.

As a side-note, I forgot to include with the "usual rules" that we normally say the picture has to be taken within 90 days. Since I forgot to say that, it's open to any flash picture, regardless of when it was taken, as long as it was taken with a Pentax dSLR/interchangeable lens camera. Hope that will open it up more, since we haven't had many pictures posted. I know this is a tough time of year for hobbies, everyone is rushing around busy with other things.

Not better beamer, just "worst flash" - the on-board flash. I too want/need to learn about using flash properly, when time permits...
