Default And, that's why they're called...

...Red-bellied woodpeckers! In this case, a VERY skittish male.

Playing around with our new keyboard and the tv. These look fantastic on my 47¨screen. I´m curious, though. Why is the bottom branch blurry? Was it moving maybe?

Thanks very much. That branch sits further to the front and is out of the focal plane. At that's what I think.

Ah. In the image it looks like the branch is just under the bird.

Nice shots Gary, great feather detail. As for the lower branch looks like a little purple fringing going on, or some other bird jumped on it.

As busy as my feeders are, it's quite conceivable that another bird jumped on it, Hans. In fact, I'd bet money on it. Not a LOT, mind you!

Perhaps it's also because the lower branch was close to the edge of your window? Sometimes window glass is more distorted at the edges...

In any case, another great photo - it's hard to get these guys posed at all, never mind such a clear shot of their (often impossible to see) red belly!

The female isn't too bad. But, this guy is REALLY skittish. He just vibrates with energy! Thanks, Mole!
