Default Week 42 and 43 of 52

Week 42, Dec. 17 – 23

A very busy week – getting ready for the Christmas break meant I was busy at work, and unpacking/repacking for going to visit Mom for Christmas kept me busy at home. The only picture I took that week was this one, the sunrise on our way driving to Vegas.

Week 43, Dec. 24 – 30

Christmas was a low-key affair, since we had really celebrated it on Thanksgiving. But Dan surprised me with a wonderful present, some macro focusing rails that I had wanted for a long time, but thought were too expensive for our limited budget. But being a fabulous, wonderful guy, he decided that he would get them for me anyway. I quickly discovered what a huge help it is for focusing when shooting macro – this is the design on a candle, 1:1 macro (K5, Viv 105 macro):

This candle is actually in the background of the nativity scene I posted a picture of for week 37 ( http://forums.steves-digicams.com/pe...7-38-52-a.html )

Dec. 26 brought snow showers to the part of Las Vegas where we were, so Dan and I ventured out to Red Rock Canyon right after it opened. It was high enough that the snow was sticking a bit.

Dan would take multiple frames of grand scenery, that often allowed me to make panoramas. He could hand-hold a series, with no intention/idea how to do a panorama, but usually were easy to stitch together. In this case, he didn’t take the two frames I stitched here at the same time – you can tell that by the double me in the picture.

One of my 5 exposure/HDR pictures, not sure if it’s very successful or not.

Later on that day we visited the Bellagio. It always has a wonderful floral display, no matter what time of year it is. Here’s a very big Christmas ornament:

The bear’s fur is all flowers – I didn’t have to bend over to get this angle, he was much taller than I am!

Dec. 28th found us back at home. It was hard not to admire the interesting frost/ice formations on the back of the car:

There was snow on the ground, and new rabbit tracks:

I was thinking as I was taking these pictures, just how lovely it is in the winter, how much fun snow (in small doses) can be, and how wonderful life could be. It was nice to imagine how nice it might be if we could retire and take life at this slower pace – a pleasant, but impractical, daydream.

I suppose I should have reflected back on the year as it drew to a close, but I didn't. It was a good year overall.

Favorites - The crystals for sure. Although, that sunrise is really cool, too.
